Hi, I’m Liza McFarland (she/her), a Licensed Professional Counselor — Mental Health Service Provider based in Kingsport, Tennessee.
I work with adults who are ready to stop apologizing for who they are. Many of my clients come to me feeling disconnected — from themselves, their goals, or their sense of meaning. Some are exhausted by perfectionism and people-pleasing. Others are untangling old stories that no longer fit. My role is to help you make sense of it all, not by “fixing” you, but by helping you come home to yourself.
My work blends Jungian psychology, feminist theory, and positive psychology. That means we explore what’s underneath the surface — your patterns, your shadow, the parts of you that have been hidden or silenced — while also identifying the strengths and values that can guide you forward. I believe healing happens when we integrate those parts, not when we try to erase them.
In therapy with me, there’s no hierarchy. I’m not the expert on your life — you are. I see our work as a collaboration rooted in honesty, curiosity, and mutual respect. I value feedback, assertiveness, and self-advocacy, and I encourage you to bring your full self into the room — the messy parts included.
I’m a mom to two amazing kids and the wife of a disabled veteran. I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Georgia, and I’ve worked in community mental health, in-home services, and group practice settings. Those experiences taught me that what people need most isn’t perfection — it’s permission to be human.
Empowered Counseling was built on that belief: that being human — fully, unapologetically, and imperfectly — is something to be proud of.
