What is group therapy?
Different groups focus on different issues but groups are typically focused on a narrow population or mental health concern. Support groups and therapy groups are both useful options but their purpose and structure is quite different.
Therapy groups can also act as support groups at times while traditional support groups do not use structured therapeutic practices.
Support Groups
Support groups are designed as a place for clients to feel validated and less alone in whatever struggles they are experiencing. These groups are not based in therapeutic practices and can be led by anyone, no training needed but they can be very effective in providing community and improving treatment outcomes. These groups are typically open with a “drop in” policy, meaning you do not have to commit ahead of time.
Therapy Groups
Therapy groups are led by licensed therapists and use evidence-based treatments and practices in the same way individual therapy does. These groups require an individual therapy intake session to determine if a group is a good fit. These groups are usually more structured and are typically closed to new members once the group starts.
Active Groups
Both therapy groups and support groups may be offered but there are usually only 1 or 2 active groups at a time. Please feel free to reach out with any specific group requests or complete a New Client Inquiry Form to request more information.
There are not any active groups currently but be sure to check back often for new groups!
