Let’s talk about motivation. Motivation is like a muscle. It can be made stronger and it can disappear depending on how you work at it.

This is one of my daughter’s toys and it just spoke to me yesterday. I saw it and thought… “I feel your pain little doll” It is easy to get caught up in the overwhelming feelings and just shut down.
So, how do we break through? Practice, reframing our thoughts, and perhaps the most important thing to do is to forgive ourselves when we screw up.
For example (I love examples): yesterday was pretty much a wash in my house. We didn’t accomplish much. So when I woke up this morning I took a moment to focus on what we DID do like getting groceries, making a healthy dinner, etc. The house was still a disaster but I was CHOOSING not to focus on our failures. I then actually did my yoga (it’s been a few days) and set my intention as motivation (we’ll talk more about intention, mindfulness, and choices in the future, they deserve their own posts). I then did the dishes and picked up some of the stuff on the floor. Is the house spotless? No, absolutely not! But it was progress and I chose to focus on what I accomplished instead of what I did not do.
Baby steps, reframing, and practice… And STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP! We all screw up, it’s time to start seeing our successes instead of our failures.
