Empowered Therapy FAQs

How do I know if I need therapy?

Do you feel uncomfortable in your own skin, find yourself generally struggling to make it through the day, or need help with goals and lifestyle changes? These are only a few of the many reasons past clients have sought therapy and if you are asking this question, the answer is probably YES! Please feel free to request a free consultation using the New Client Inquiry Form to discuss your specific situation.

When will I have appointments?

Virtual appointments are available Monday-Thursday from 9am-4pm. In-person appointments are currently available only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Depending on your needs, it is common for appointments to begin at a frequency of every week or every other week to start. There is flexibility in this and we can discuss what other options might be appropriate.

How much does therapy cost?

Services range from $20-$160 depending on your needs and what you are seeking. Please see the Services and Fees page for more details. More individualized information can be provided for your specific needs after a consultation, please complete the New Client Inquiry Form to get scheduled for a free consultation call.

The initial session is charged at a higher rate and covers the additional time needed to complete the assessment and related paperwork.

Your therapist’s credentials will also affect the cost. Interns offer services at a reduced rate of $30 per 45-50 minute session. Fully licensed clinicians charge $130 per 45-50 minute session. Only licensed therapists are in network with insurance plans.

What if I can’t afford that much each week?

We will gladly work with you to find the best balance between frequency of sessions and what fits your budget. We can accept most Optum, Cigna, and Aetna insurance plans (we do not accept any TennCare/Medicaid/Medicare plans) and will work with you verify your coverage including what your expected copay or coinsurance may be for each session. We are also partnered with Open Path Collective to offer a limited number of discounted rates, please visit their website to learn more and get signed up if you would like to take advantage of discounted rates. Group sessions* are sometimes offered and are less expensive per session. Please complete a New Client Inquiry Form to get scheduled for a consultation to discuss what options are available and appropriate for you.

For free and low-cost mental health services, please visit our Resources page to view local options. For non-local inquiries, the health department website for your state may have local resources listed or many mental health service providers maintain a list of local options.

*Please note that some offerings are not appropriate for everyone, a personalized consultation can provide information specific to your needs. After the consultation, it is required that every new client complete an individual intake prior to seeking any of our other services.

Do you accept insurance?

We recently partnered with Alma and Liza McFarland is now in network with Optum, Cigna, and Aetna.

We are currently considered out of network for all other insurance plans but can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.* Please check back for updates as this is subject to change.

Interns cannot accept insurance and are only available for self-pay options.

*There is no guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you in full for services so it is best to speak with your provider and your insurance company before using this option.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed list of services that includes how much has been paid, diagnosis information, and other information requested by insurance companies.
